About the Lecturers

Presented by Lecturers who, collectively, have over 80 years of practical and theoretical experience in the Design and Implementation of Control Systems, Rolling Mill Models and Mill Instrumentation.

Glen Wallace

Glen is the Global Director, Hatch IAS. His activities with the company started in 1991 with the design and implementation of shape, thickness and coating control systems. This work progressed into research and development activities contributing to patents in thickness control, mill vibration suppression and coating control. He has consulted to companies around the world on thin strip casting, rolling, annealing and galvanizing. In 1999 Glen established the North American operation of IAS and in 2003 he returned to Australia to lead IAS globally.

Ayman Abu-Abed

Ayman is a consulting engineer who started work for Hatch in 1995 as a process and controls engineer for rolling mill control systems. Working with over 35 steel hot rolling mill clients in over 18 countries, Ayman has developed, installed and supported several automatic gauge control systems for steel hot rolling mills, developed control systems for other hot rolling mill equipment and was instrumental in developing custom designs for the Coilbox Technology in some of these mills. Ayman currently manages several Steel Mill Equipment Technologies in Hatch.

Tino Domanti

Tino commenced work with IAS in 1987 as a software engineer. In 1993 he completed his PhD in the modelling of residual stress in flat metal rolling. He currently heads the Research and Development group within Hatch IAS. Tino has developed models for thin strip, temper, foil and asymmetric rolling and has been involved in a number of consulting projects covering aspects from mill shape and profile performance to control system design.

Peter Thomas

Peter started with IAS in 1982, initially as an automation engineer. He has been involved in numerous automation projects on hot and cold rolling mills in both the steel and aluminium industries. More recently he has taken on a consulting role, employing his process and automation experience to the benefit of clients around the world.
