Ensuring a 100-year lifespan, Mactaquac life achievement

The Mactaquac Generating Station is a run of the river hydro facility located approximately twenty kilometers west of the City of Fredericton. The facility was constructed in the 1960s and consists of a rock-fill dam, two concrete spillways, and a concrete surface intake and powerhouse. It has an installed generation capacity of 672 MW, supplying about 12% of New Brunswick homes and businesses with clean, low-cost power. The facility began generating electricity in 1968.

Due to the continued effects of AAR on concrete structures, associated impacts to the hydro-electric units and the advanced ageing of the existing equipment, NB Power has initiated the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project to ensure that the Mactaquac Generating Station can continue to operate to its intended 100-year lifespan.
