James Engels

James is a power system studies specialist focusing on systems studies and HVDC design within Hatch’s power transmission & integration systems studies team. With an educational background in control systems and electronics design, James is now focused on HVDC control application design and hardware deployment.

James has contributed to a variety of projects including: LCC HVDC transmission control and protection design, transmission planning and feasibility studies, root cause analysis, system impact assessments, and renewable energy interconnection. James has extensive experience in data analytics and software development and is familiar with industry standard software such as PSSE, PSLF, MATLAB/Simulink, and PSCAD.

As he looks to grow his breadth and depth of experience James is turning his focus to developing client relationships and finding unique solutions to address the ever-changing demand of the power industry.
