Biography

Kathryn (Kat) is an EIT graduate with her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering with an emphasis in dams and levees from Utah State University. She anticipates receiving her PE license in 2025.  

Kat launched her career at Hatch in 2022 and has had the opportunity to work on a variety of hydropower projects including the Fargo-Moorhead Flood Risk Management Project, public safety reports for dams across Canada, and tailings dam breach analyses for multiple international clients, among others. Internally, Kat helps to coordinate Hatch’s Dam Safety Accelerated Training Program and has contributed new ideas and resources to the group from U.S. Dam Safety organizations. She had the pleasure of attending the Dams and Public Safety Workshop at the 2023 CDA Conference and is familiar with risk assessment and mitigation at dams.  

Kat looks forward to the future of hydropower engineering globally. She is poised to engage with clients and network internationally using her fluency in French, Finnish and familiarity with Swedish, and Norwegian on topics including the importance of public safety, dam safety, risk mitigation strategies, and new technology available to aid in these endeavors.
