Biography

Robin joined the Acres Applied Mechanics Department in Niagara Falls in 1972 after being on the faculty of the University of Waterloo in the Solid Mechanics Division as a Research Assistant Professor. He worked in the Acres Niagara Falls office on a wide variety of hydropower and dam projects, with emphasis on design, engineering review, asset management, earthquake engineering, seismology, safety and security assessments, and rehabilitation projects for dams and hydroelectric plants.  

In 1991, Robin was elected a Vice-President of Acres. He then moved to Seattle in 1998 to establish a new office focusing on dam safety and hydro rehabilitation. After retiring in 2004, he worked as an independent consultant on six (non-artic) continents from his home base on Whidbey Island, WA. Robin was initially a Chartered Engineer in the UK, a Professional Engineer in Canada, and is currently a Professional Engineer in the United States. He was active in the Canadian Dam Association, was Vice-President of the US Society on Dams and continues to be very active in the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD).
