Stream 2: Maple Room
Data, systems, and decision analytic tools for today’s hydropower

This presentation highlights various methodologies for addressing complexities and enhancing decision-making in hydropower systems.  It highlights three primary approaches, each addressing a unique aspect of hydropower and dams.

The first uses the Design-Structure Matrix (DSM) to map out the interdependencies and guide the desired configuration for a network of dams and waterways.  The second approach utilizes the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to enhance asset management decision-making.  The third applies data analysis techniques to dam instrumentation data, focusing on trend detection and predictive insights.

Together, these examples demonstrate the effectiveness of integrating engineering expertise with data science and systems tools in diverse applications within the hydropower sector.
